AQUILA

AQUILAは、斜面地という地形条件を積極的に建築体験へと転換した住宅である。

計画地は、倶知安町のスキーリゾートからやや離れた、豊かな起伏と原生林が残る静かな別荘地である。

建築は道路側から上昇する斜面に沿って構成し、生活の中心となるリビング・ダイニング、主寝室、浴室、サウナルームを樹冠の高さまで持ち上げた。地面から切り離された主室は、森を眺めるのではなく、森の中に浮かぶという新しい空間体験を生み出している。

建物を取り囲むデッキは、内外の境界を緩やかに曖昧にし、建築をまるで森の上を進む船のような存在へと変化させる。季節ごとに表情を変える木々、風に揺れる葉音、鳥たちの気配までもが、この住まいを構成する重要な要素となる。

冬になると落葉した木々の間から視界は大きく開け、羊蹄山を望む雄大な景観が現れる。雪原の上に樹冠だけが浮かぶ冬景色は、建築そのものが白銀の世界に浮遊しているかのような感覚をもたらす。

外観は、内部空間と風景との関係を丹念に導き出した結果として生まれた。大きく広がる屋根は翼を思わせ、ニセコの山並みを背景に、一羽の鷲が静かに斜面へ舞い降りた瞬間を想起させる。

建築名称である**「AQUILA」**は、ラテン語で「鷲」を意味する。地形に降り立ち、森の上に浮かびながら、雄大な風景を見渡すこの住まいの姿を象徴している。

AQUILA is a residence that actively transforms the topographical conditions of a sloped site into an architectural experience.

The site is a quiet vacation home community, situated a short distance from the ski resort in Kutchan Town, featuring rich undulations and remnants of virgin forest.

The building is arranged along a slope rising from the roadside, with the living and dining areas—the heart of daily life—as well as the master bedroom, bathroom, and sauna room elevated to the height of the tree canopy. By elevating the main living spaces above ground level, the design creates a new spatial experience—one in which the home does not merely overlook the forest but appears to float within it.

The deck surrounding the building gently blurs the boundary between interior and exterior, transforming the structure into something akin to a ship gliding above the forest. The trees, which change their appearance with the seasons; the rustling of leaves in the wind; and even the presence of birds all become essential elements that define this home.

In winter, the view opens up widely through the bare trees, revealing a majestic panorama of Mount Yōtei. The winter landscape, with only the tree canopy floating above the snow-covered plains, creates the sensation that the building itself is suspended in a silvery-white world.

The exterior design emerged as the result of meticulously defining the relationship between the interior space and the surrounding landscape. The sweeping roof evokes the image of wings and, against the backdrop of the Niseko mountain range, brings to mind the moment when an eagle quietly glides down the slope.

The building’s name, **“AQUILA”**, means “eagle” in Latin. It symbolizes the presence of this home as it settles upon the terrain, hovers above the forest, and surveys the majestic landscape.
